Hall of Fame – Class of 2006

alperRon Hutcheson

Central 1972

When Ron Hutcheson (Central High 1972) moved to Austin more than 30 years ago, he couldn’t have anticipated that his career would someday intersect with that of one of the Lone Star State’s most famous sons: George W. Bush. As a Washington correspondent, he follows the President and his delegates all over the world, covering the news at the top level of government.

Some of the more memorable moments of his reporting career include questioning Bush and Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference in the Kremlin, going to Putin’s country villa, flying into Kosovo in an armed helicopter, and attending a news conference in China’s Great Hall of the People.

For the past two years, Ron represented his cohorts in the press corps as president of the White House Correspondents’ Association. In this leadership role, he negotiated the parameters of press conferences with Bush’s press secretary and worked to clear some of the obstacles on the information highway from the Oval Office to the press corps.

He has also been interviewed by numerous news organizations, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, MSNBC and Fox News, as well as foreign media.

Hutcheson currently resides in Washington D.C.
